“His explosive use of color and playful images put a smile on your face. A reminder to not take life so seriously”. : )
- Johnny Blanco
Chances are that while you’ve been strolling through the streets of Paris, London, New York, or Los Angeles, you may have caught a glimpse of Saraiva’s signature graffiti of Mr. A (or Monsieur A as he is known in Paris) on a random street wall.

“Being an artist is about taking the risk to not please others but to be guided by your need to create and tell stories in your own way”.
- André Saraiva
Before he began exhibiting his work in galleries, André Saraiva was known as Monsieur A in graffiti communities. Saraiva was active in the early Parisian graffiti movement, alongside Space Invader and Zevs. He became identified with his iconic, cartoonish character: a round-headed figure with long limbs and a circle and a cross for eyes—a subject that recurred in Saraiva’s early canvas paintings.

“When I paint and when I create, it is always very exciting. It does not feel like work for me; it feels like exploring my imaginary world and dreams.”
- André Saraiva
Maybe you have seen him in the Banksy film, “Exit Through the Gift Shop”; spied him in the front rows of the Paris Fashion Week shows; or seen him at one of his many chic nightclubs.
His book “Graffiti Life” is a never-before-seen look at the artist’s many talents through which he effortlessly moves: street culture, contemporary art, graphic design, photography, fashion, and nightlife. It follows Saraiva’s trajectory, and includes his Instagram-worthy tags on the streets of Paris; countless silk-screened posters; paintings and sculpture; creative collaborations with Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Colette, and more…
“I had the chance about fifteen years ago to buy an original piece of graffiti by André. A tall lanky Mr. A stepping in full strut. To this day I still regret not adding that piece to my collection.”
